Yesterday, a rumor circulated that Google was preparing to launch a version of the Pixel tablet that would ship without the charging dock in the box. Today, a new rumor “confirms” the previous one (as much as any rumor can “confirm” anything) and helpfully adds pricing information for the new dockless tablet.
Fortunately, it will cost less than the tablet + dock bundle currently on sale. In the Eurozone, anonymous retailer listings would charge €446 with 128GB of storage and €553 with 256GB for the tablet alone.
For comparison, note that the price of the current pack including the dock is respectively €679 and €779 for these two storage versions. The disclosed prices, however, seem strange and may not include VAT, which varies significantly between EU countries.
If we added the amount of German VAT of 19%, the resulting price would be €529 for the 128 GB model and €659 for the 256 GB model. This still represents a significant reduction for those who do not have need the dock, so the official release can’t come soon enough.
The same unnamed retailers also reportedly listed the rumored Bluetooth keyboard accessory. Its price in this inventory system is €89, which may or may not be the final sale price. While it is also VAT-free, adding it again for Germany would give a final price of €105. The stylus, also discussed, is not listed, but yesterday’s leak claimed it would be the same price as the keyboard.
