Sony’s latest major video game, Concordelaunched last week on PS5 and PC. And even though the online shooter is fun and seems very expensive, it seems that very few people play it, given some truly abysmal numbers and statistics.
Concorde has been officially announced last year with a small teaser, then officially revealed in May via a A CG trailer that everyone hated and a gameplay video that looked more promising. Online-only PVP sci-fi FPS isn’t free, instead of costing $40. When I played the game’s beta in JulyI was worried that the price would make it difficult to sell in a crowded market. And now, looking at the available numbers, it seems that Concorde could be one of the biggest flops of 2024.

Hardly Anyone Is Playing Sony’s New FPS on Steam
As of August 26, Concorde has not yet Reach 1,000 concurrent players on SteamSince its launch on Steam last week, the highest recorded number of players enjoying all Concorde is currently at 697. In comparison, Helldivers 2 on average around 18,000 active players on any given day and its maximum number is 450,000. During this time, Valve isn’t even out yet or finished shooter, Dead endhas more than 80,000 people playing it.
Nowadays, many people on the internet mistakenly believe that a high player count is the only indicator of success for any game, which is not accurate. But when it comes to an online multiplayer shooter game that is solely designed to play with other people, yes, numbers do matter.
On the PS5, data is harder to come by, as Sony doesn’t publicly share how many people are playing a game. But we can check the top sellers list on PlayStation’s official website to get an idea of what people are and aren’t buying. And Concorde is currently the 37th best-selling game on PSN.
If this was a random third-party online shooter from a small publisher, it wouldn’t be so bad. However, this is PlayStation’s latest exclusive game. Concorde just doesn’t connect with people the way most of Sony’s first-party games do, like God of War And The last of us.
So now what happens? I’m not sure. I think we’ll probably see free weekends for Concorde in the near future, in an effort to get the shooter into more people’s hands. But I also think Sony is going to have to admit that the $40 price tag was a mistake for this game and either relaunch it as a free title or give it to all PS Plus subscribers for a month.
Otherwise, it’s likely that in a few weeks, no one but the most die-hard superfans will still be playing. Concorde on any platform.
