City of the Wolves’ character select screen from the demo revealed

Return to original titles

For the past 25 years, the Fatal Fury series has remained mostly dormant in SNK’s vaults, but now the wild wolf is finally gearing up for a big comeback.

Evo Japan 2024 marks the first time Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves has been playable to the public in the form of a limited demo, which also revealed what the character select screen currently looks like, and it’s a bit different from what you would typically expect.

Instead of the usual squares/rectangles containing character portraits, the City of Wolves selection screen features the five available fighters of Terry Bogard, Rock Howard, Hotaru Futaba, Tizoc and newcomer Preecha, lined up next to each other others with their whole body. portraits.

After choosing sides of the controller and a stage, it appears players simply need to move left or right to cycle through the characters where larger, more detailed portraits and their names will appear after highlighting them for a second.

After choosing a fighter, players can then decide on a color and which third of their life bar the SPG system will be active on for a handful of additional benefits.

This may seem a bit unorthodox compared to most modern fighters, but CotW seems to be referencing the first three Fatal Fury games.

Admittedly, City’s character selection screen feels a bit lacking next to the way Fatal Fury 3 dynamically poses its fighters.

However, the way the screen appears now is not how it will be in the final version since it is only a demo with five characters and still potentially about a year from launch.
