China stabilizes, in the shadow of Country Garden and Evergrande


China’s economy no longer looks like a newly paved parking lot: things are moving again and green shoots are appearing between the cracks. But maintaining that could be difficult if big real estate developers also continue to divide.

Official data released Wednesday showed China’s economy grew 4.9% year-on-year in the third quarter and 1.3% quarter-on-quarter. The latter figure was almost twice as fast as the 0.8% rise recorded in the second quarter.
