“I don’t think it’s very impressive that Lithuania is spending 3 percent, while Estonia is spending 3 percent. If I were them, I would spend 10 percent, if they were serious about the Russian threat,” he said. “I think Europeans need to understand that they need to strengthen their military as soon as possible.”
“My personal view is that we should commit substantial forces available to the defense of eastern NATO, without compromising our ability to (defend) the first island chain, in this case Taiwan,” he added.
He stressed that “key capabilities” such as long-range fire, logistics, command and control logistics known as C4ISR, munitions and air defense were areas the United States should focus on in Asia, not Europe.
“These are the most important assets, but they are also the rarest,” he said.
