Super Mario Maker fans got to say goodbye to their game, but Sony just unceremoniously pulled the plug on LittleBigPlanet and 16 years of community creations

It’s not a good time to enjoy platform games built on community creations, as the LittleBigPlanet 3 servers were shut down just a week after support for Wii U servers and Super Mario Maker was removed. But while Nintendo fans were able to say goodbye to their game, the death of LittleBigPlanet came as a sudden shock.

All LittleBigPlanet servers were taken offline in 2021 amid hacks that bombarded players with offensive content. Later that year, LittleBigPlanet 3 went back online and has since been the only way for fans to access 16 years of community-created levels dating back to the original 2008 game. Then, in January 2024, the Developers announced that LittleBigPlanet 3 was “temporarily” offline again.
