Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico in ‘life-threatening condition’ after being shot – POLITICO

“Utterly shocked by today’s brutal and irresponsible attack on Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, which I condemn in the strongest possible terms,” said outgoing Slovak President Zuzana Čaputová in a message on X (formerly Twitter).

Michal Šimečka, an opposition leader, said he was “shocked and dismayed” by the shooting.

“We unequivocally and firmly condemn all violence. We hope that Prime Minister Fico will be fine and that this terrible act will be revealed as quickly as possible,” Šimečka also said on X.

Video apparently filmed at the scene showed Fico’s security guards lifting him under the arms and loading him into the back of a black limousine.

The Slovak Parliament was informed of the attack and immediately suspended its work.

Good wishes were sent to Fico by European leaders, who expressed shock at the shooting.
