Scottie Scheffler answered almost every question he was asked about 2024. Does he putt well enough to start winning tournaments? Yes. Will he win another major championship? Yes. Will he play and compete the week following his Masters triumph? Yes. Will he manage to balance his personal and professional life with the arrival of a new child? Yes.

This week, at the 2024 PGA Championship, he launched two more. How will he compete after being arrested and released following chaotic traffic incident before the second round on Friday? Will he also be able to play on Saturday with his usual caddy missing from his bag for 18 holes?

Scheffler revealed Tuesday that his bag man since late 2021, Ted Scott, would not be lugging his clubs around the par-71 Valhalla Golf Club on Saturday because Scott would instead be attending his daughter’s high school graduation. Scott will fly out of Louisville Friday evening after the second round, celebrate his daughter’s achievement on Saturday and return at some point in the evening to resume duties for the final round on Sunday.

“It’s something we’ve talked about since the beginning of our relationship: family always comes first, and that’s the same for me as it is for my youngest child,” Scheffler said. “It was a pretty easy decision. He told me at the beginning of this year that this was the date it was on, so I found a backup caddy. One of my buddies is going to carry the bag on Saturday , then Ted I’ll be back for Sunday’s round.”

In place of Scott, Brad Payne will assume the role of Scheffler’s right-hand man for the third round. Payne currently serves as a PGA Tour chaplain after playing collegiate golf at Pepperdine University.

“He’s an older friend of mine who travels here week to week,” Scheffler said. “He’s the chaplain of the Tour. His name is Brad and he’s my caddy on Saturday. I trust him to rake a bunker more than my friends.”
