Police intervene as Gaza protest hits Nancy Pelosi speech in Oxford – POLITICO

On X, the campaign group called her a “supporter of genocide” and a “warmonger”.

Protesters remained silent for 20 minutes of Pelosi’s speech before police removed them.

The former speaker seemed unfazed, signaling her support for the right to protest — and pointing out that her own Democratic Party had just waved Ukrainian flags in Congress to celebrate the passage of a major aid bill.

Speaking through a microphone amid chants coming from outside the building, Pelosi told students that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin “must go” and stressed that “the suffering in Gaza must end.”

Pelosi recently joined fellow Democrat Chuck Schumer in saying Netanyahu should step down, calling him “an obstacle to the two-state solution” in an interview with Irish newspaper RTE News.

She added Thursday evening in Oxford: “We want peace on both sides. Both parties must agree.

The main event was supposed to see Pelosi take on James Schneider, who headed communications for former left-wing Labor leader Jeremy Corbyn. Eventually he dropped out and was replaced by a student.

In the 19th century union courtyard, a sturdy security guard explains the commotion to a student. “It’s Nancy Pelosi, and a lot of people are not fans,” he said.
