Konami is ‘aware’ that Metal Gear Solid 4 is still stuck on PS3

Thanks to the recent Master Collection that brought Metal Gear Solid, 2: Sons of Liberty, and 3: Snake Eater back to PS5 and PS4, Konami’s MGS series is easier to access than ever. Thanks to PS5 backwards compatibility, Ground Zeroes and V: The Phantom Pain are also playable. However, there’s something missing from the timeline: Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.

The game was originally released on PS3 in 2008, but has never been ported to any other system. There has been no remaster, port, or remake. If you want to play the fourth installment in the Metal Gear Solid franchise, your only option is to play it on a PS3. Given the console’s rather unique architecture, the game is essentially stuck there.

Fans are hoping that a second volume of the recent Master Collection will bring Guns of the Patriots to modern consoles, along with other titles like Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and Peace Walker. When asked by IGN if that would be the case, Konami producer Noriaki Okamura responded that the company was “aware” of the “situation” regarding Metal Gear Solid 4. “Unfortunately, we can’t really say much at the moment, with Volume 1 containing MGS 1-3 dot dot dot… you can probably connect the dots,” he continued. “Right now, we’re still internally concerned about what we should do for the future of the series. Sorry, we can’t really reveal anything at the moment. But stay tuned!”

Okamura was asked about this in an interview about Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, a faithful remake of the third game on PS2. We also had the chance to play the opening Virtue Mission and found it to be “fiercely faithful” in every way. “Without needing to change the gameplay or the story, Konami and Virtuos have made near-perfect adjustments,” we said. “Based on the Virtue Mission, they’re doing it the right way.”
