Jenna Ortega, 21, Responds to Rumors She Dated Johnny Depp, 61

Jenna Ortega never dated Johnny Depp.

The “Wednesday” star, 21, denied “crazy” rumors that she is “in a serious relationship” with Depp, 61, during her “Puppy Interview” with BuzzFeed on Monday.

Asked about the “craziest rumor” she’s ever heard about herself, Ortega replied: “Probably that I was in a serious relationship with Johnny Depp and I wanted everyone to leave us alone.”

“It’s so crazy to me,” she added. “I’ve never talked about this. I’ve never said anything like that.”

Ortega added: “I thought it was pretty hilarious. I was on set with Richard E. Grant, and he came up to me and said, ‘Oh, so you and Johnny…’ and I laughed because I don’t know this person.”

The “Scream VI” actress was linked to the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star by gossip blog Deuxmoi in August 2023.

The account claimed that Ortega and Depp had been spotted together and were possibly working together on Tim Burton’s “Beetlejuice.”

Ortega then denied the rumors on Instagram, writing: “This is so ridiculous I can’t even laugh. I have never met or worked with Johnny Depp in my life. Please stop spreading lies and leave us alone.”

Depp’s rep also insisted the rumours were a lie in a statement to NME.

“Mr. Depp has no personal or professional relationship with Ms. Ortega,” the representative said. “He has never met or spoken with her. He is not involved in any projects with her and has no intention of being involved.”

The statement added: “He is appalled by these baseless and malicious rumours which aim to harm his reputation and career.”

Ortega has remained very private about her love life. She told Elle magazine last year that she was happy being single and that “the idea of a relationship stressed me out.”

Depp, meanwhile, is reportedly dating Russian model Yulia Vlasova, 28.

The couple reportedly met in Prague, where Vlasova resides, in August 2021 at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.

It is one of Depp’s first relationships since he emerged victorious in his defamation lawsuit against ex-wife Amber Heard in June 2022.

Despite what Deuxmoi said last year, Depp is not expected to appear in the sequel to “Beetlejuice,” directed by Burton, 66, and due out September 6.

Depp has worked with the acclaimed director on several films, including “Edward Scissorhands” (1990), “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” (2005), “Sweeney Todd” (2007) and “Alice in Wonderland” (2010).

In “Beetlejuice,” Ortega plays Astrid Deetz, the daughter of Lydia Deetz, played by Winona Ryder. Michael Keaton and Catherine O’Hara also reprise their roles from the 1988 film, while Justin Theroux, Willem Dafoe and Burton’s girlfriend Monica Bellucci are also part of the cast.

Burton praised Ortega in a recent interview with BFI, calling her “one of the most self-conscious actresses” in the business.

“She’s a very special talent. And she’s done a lot of horror movies, which I love too,” Burton said. “That gave her a special place in my heart. ‘Oh, you’re doing another horror movie. Good.’”
