Another retailer has leaked additional information about the upcoming Garmin Fenix 8 smartwatches. Uhrenlounge.de appears to have confirmed various rumors about the wearable and provided new information.
The website states that both AMOLED and MIP displays will be offered in the Fenix 8 lineup, which is consistent with previous information. A standard version of the smartwatch will come in 43mm, 47mm, and 51mm sizes with an AMOLED display, while a solar variant will come in 47mm and 51mm sizes with a memory-in-pixel (MIP) display. The MIP display requires less power, and battery life is said to be further improved by improved solar charging technology. According to the retailer, this technology provides 50% more power than previous Fenix solar smartwatches.
Uhrenlounge.de also confirms a 29-day battery life for the AMOLED models in smartwatch mode and 48 days in always-on display mode for the solar wearables. On top of that, the rumored larger display is confirmed here, with the 43mm model listed as using a 1.3-inch display, an increase from the 1.2-inch screen on the older 42mm watch, and the 47mm versions offering a 1.4-inch display, compared to the 1.3-inch on the equivalent Fenix 7. However, the 51mm watch has the same 1.4-inch display. Various materials, such as a titanium or stainless steel bezel and a sapphire or Gorilla glass lens, will be available. Another recently leaked element is a side-mounted sensor protector, a first for the brand.
The product page also details various previously-discussed features, such as a built-in speaker and microphone for calls and voice commands, as well as Garmin Share. Tools like premium maps, an LED flashlight, and the Garmin Messenger app are included, similar to the Fenix 7. Another new tidbit revealed about the wearable is its ability to record dives up to 40m (~131ft), with profiles like recreational diving and freediving. The Garmin Fenix 8 smartwatch is set to launch on August 27, with prices starting at around $1,100/€999.
