G7 leaders to meet on Iranian attack on Israel – POLITICO
US President Joe Biden called the attack an “unprecedented air attack on military installations in Israel.” He added that G7 leaders “will coordinate a united diplomatic response to Iran’s brazen attack.” American officials “will remain in close contact with Israeli leaders,” he added.
Iran launched more than 300 missiles and drones against Israel, but 99% of them were intercepted, the Israeli military said. Biden said U.S. forces helped Israel shoot down “nearly all” of the drones and missiles.
The region was on high alert for possible retaliation by Iran after an Israeli strike killed a senior Iranian officer at an embassy in Syria. Biden noted that “the U.S. military has moved ballistic missile defense aircraft and destroyers to the region over the past week” in anticipation of an attack.
The Israeli government has called for an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council.
