Brazil bridge buckles and plunges into river

Footage shows a man narrowly avoiding falling into a river in southern Brazil as a highway bridge collapsed on Tuesday.

Heavy rains, causing huge floods in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, have killed 39 people and 68 are still missing, according to local authorities.

Tens of thousands of people have fled their homes and there have been power and water cuts.

These extreme weather conditions were caused by a rare combination of warmer-than-average temperatures, high humidity and strong winds.
