Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet the Indian diaspora at the Nassau Coliseum in New York today. Hours earlier, he attended the Quad Summit, where he outlined India’s views and commitments towards global growth, development, peace and security.

Prime Minister Modi has already met some members of the Indian diaspora. After arriving at the Lotte Palace Hotel in New York, the diaspora members welcomed him with a dance performance to an Indian folk song and chanted “Modi! Modi!”

A member of the Indian community whose painting was signed by Prime Minister Modi told news agency ANI, “I met the Prime Minister today. I felt really good. As soon as he saw my painting, he asked me where I am from. I told him that I am from Mithila region. The painting is based on the theme of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,” she said.

At the Quad leaders’ summit and others associated with it, Prime Minister Modi underlined India’s approach of cooperation, outreach and engagement for growth with a variety of partners in the Indo-Pacific region, External Affairs Minister Vikram Misri told reporters in New York.

Along with the US, a special feature of the bilateral meeting was the return of 297 antiques to India, some of which were on display at Mr Biden’s residence during the bilateral meeting.

“In fact, the Prime Minister today referred to the Quad in a very, very evocative way. He called it Quick Unified Assistance Delivery (QUAD). The other members of the Quad said that they finally understood what the Quad meant and what it stood for,” Mr Misri said.

Prime Minister Modi also mentioned that at a time when the world is in the grip of tensions and conflicts, the coming together of these four Quad partners sharing common democratic values is important for humanity. He said that the Quad is here to stay, to assist, partner and complement the efforts of the Indo-Pacific countries.

Among the key announcements at the summit was the Quad Cancer Moonshot, a groundbreaking partnership aimed at addressing the challenges of cancer, and in this case, cervical cancer.

Many regional and global issues were discussed, including the need to reform the multilateral system of governance, including the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
