Julian Assange can appeal U.S. extradition order, U.K. court rules

LONDON — Two judges at Britain’s High Court have allowed Julian Assange to appeal his extradition to the United States, where he faces espionage charges for leaking reams of sensitive military and diplomatic files via WikiLeaks in 2010.

This was a legal victory for Assange, as it meant the 52-year-old WikiLeaks founder would not be taken away by US marshals. But he is expected to remain in high-security Belmarsh prison on the outskirts of London while his legal saga continues in Britain for several more months.
