Zendaya Explains Why Her Viral Mugler Robot Suit was a ‘Bad Idea’

Zendaya created one of her most iconic red carpet moments to date at the Dune: part two press tour, but according to the star, it almost didn’t happen.

In a new video for VogueIn the “Life in Looks” series, the 26-year-old actress shared the story of the 1995 Mugler robot bodysuit she wore to the film’s Feb. 15 premiere in London.

When she first had the idea, she was fully committed to making it happen, even though her stylist, Law Roach, wasn’t convinced. “He said to me: ‘Are you serious? Do not play with me ! Don’t start me on something and make me do this, and you’re going to chicken out at the last minute and be too scared to wear clothes,” Zendaya recalled.

The duo managed to get their hands on the archive design, one of the men who made the suit in the 90s even attended the fitting and the armor “fit like a glove”. The whole thing felt “meant to be,” Zendaya said. .

However, before the big reveal, Zendaya started thinking it was a “bad idea.” And she faced some complications when she finally hit the mat.

“Immediately after wearing it for 10 minutes or less, I felt really dizzy. Metal conducts and retains heat very quickly and traps it. I’m wearing a full bodysuit. There’s a barrier, so you already have a layer of material on your skin,” Zendaya explained. She added: “But I put it in, I did it and I did it. »

She didn’t stay in the metal contraption for long and then changed into a black cowl neck Mugler dress accessorized with vintage Bulgari earrings and an emerald ring.

All of this just sets the bar for what’s to come from Zendaya’s 2024 Met Gala look, which will surely be inspired by this year’s “Le Jardin du Temps” dress code.
