Yucaipa High teacher accused of having sex with student

A 38-year-old Yucaipa High School teacher was arrested Thursday night on suspicion of having sex with a 16-year-old student, authorities said.

Tracy Vanderhulst was incarcerated at the San Bernardino Central Detention Center on suspicion of having illegal sex with a minor. A press release said she had been booked in lieu of $30,000 bond, but it was unclear Friday night if she was in custody.

Vanderhulst was named Yucaipa High’s “teacher of the year” in 2017, according to social media posts and local news reports at the time. In a now deleted Tweeterthe school said it “provides a rigorous math curriculum and deep care for its students.”

In a YouTube video posted seven years ago, she can be seen teaching a specialized math class to freshmen.

Investigators from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department worked the case with the Yucaipa-Calimesa Joint Unified School District.
