The latest influencer boxing event to gain traction is Social Gloves’ Battle of the Platforms – YouTubers vs TikTokers.
This Saturday, June 12, the current trend of young social media celebrities turning to sports will continue with another unorthodox show at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
British YouTubers Joe Weller and Theo Baker started the trend in 2017 by making a video in which they boxed in a gym.
When Weller emerged victorious, he was challenged by YouTube giant KSI and the couple staged a white collar event that sold out London’s Copper Box Arena in early 2018.
KSI won by save and then took over, calling Logan Paul and Jake Paul.
The Americans both rose to the challenge and a sold-out second event at Manchester Arena saw KSI draw Logan, while his brother Deji was beaten by Jake.
The trend then turned professional when promoter Eddie Hearn hosted the KSI rematch against Logan Paul at Staples Center in Los Angeles, with the Briton winning by split decision.
Jake Paul has since had three professional fights – the first promoted by Hearn as he beat AnEsonGib.
He then passed two Trillers in his last two fights, knocking out Nate Robinson and Ben Askren.
Now Logan Paul has gone the distance in an exhibition with Floyd Mayweather as the trend continues to grow.
The latest event to capture young audiences features familiar faces already seen.
Social Gloves’ YouTubers vs. TikTokers show is headlined by Austin McBroom vs. Bryce Hall.
Deji and AnEsonGib are back in action on the undercard against Vinnie Hacker and Taylor Holder respectively.
The press conference was chaotic as expected with a brawl that erupted after many unusual speeches.
It looks like influence boxing isn’t going away anytime soon.
