CHICAGO (SCS) — If you haven’t heard of it, there’s a relatively new museum downtown called the Ice Cream Museum, and it sells out regularly.
CBS 2’s Jamaica Ponder stopped by before opening hours to get a glimpse of all the excitement.
“This is an experience museum, so we’re creating fun things to do while also being educational,” said Kimberly Lawson, the museum’s assistant general manager.
Kimberly Lawson became deputy general manager when the museum opened in July. The entire place is a pink maze of over a dozen rooms with sweet games and dairy-themed activities.
“It’s unlike anything you’ve ever experienced before. We celebrate what ice cream means. And so when you think of ice cream, it’s childhood birthday parties and it’s celebration and it’s family and it’s connection,” Lawson said.
“And so everything we do here is really trying to imitate or make it feel like a kid,”
We didn’t spend the whole day here, but it’s easy to see how easily one could. Our itinerary was marked by five candy stations, serving guests unlimited creative concoctions; from classic Sno-Cone to hot dog ice cream.
Lawson said the icing on the cake was definitely the staff. They do more than just treat, adding that they are the ones who really experience it.
“We’re hiring entertainers and people who are fantastic in the food and hospitality business, and it’s just an energetic team of 80 talented people,” Lawson said.
She added that even if you’ve been there before, they’ll have a whole new line of treats for the spooky season.
“Starting September 30, Halloween will take over our building, which we call the ‘I-Scream Museum,'” Lawson said.
If you’re looking to buy tickets, they’re just under $50 per person. And right now, the museum has some spooky Halloween surprises in store, so be sure to take advantage of their weekday back-to-school discount by going downtown now.
