“You still have 4 rings! How many players can say they even have 1″

The Currys have always been there for Klay Thompson throughout his career. After struggling a lot last month, Steph Curry’s mother, Sonya Curry, sent him a text that lifted his spirits.

Curry’s mother posted this message to her Instagram account after the Golden State Warriors guard received a scathing reality check from Charles Barkley:

“You don’t owe anyone an explanation!” You, to your proclaimed self “not the same”, are still better than most current and past NBA players.

“Focus on God, your team and yourself!

“You still have 4 rings! How many players can say they even have 1! The most important thing is that you find your joy in playing a sport you love and earn a good living!”

Steph Curry’s mother Sonya Curry has shared some words of wisdom for Klay Thompson in response to her comments directed at Charles Barkley 💯 https://t.co/rByPhyVhQC

Charles Barkley claimed during TNT’s coverage of the Phoenix Suns vs. Golden State Warriors game that Thompson wasn’t who he was. The Hall of Fame has claimed that ‘Killa Klay’ is no longer one of the NBA’s elite two-way players.

Thompson would later admit that Barkley’s comments hurt him deeply. The four-time champion spent more than two years in rehabilitation after two successive major injuries. No one has returned after suffering such injuries and still performing at a high level in the NBA.

Despite the lengthy layoff, Klay Thompson was still instrumental in the playoffs last season and in the Finals against the Boston Celtics. It wasn’t business as usual, but there were times when “Game 6 Klay” was at its best.

It could even be argued that the Warriors could not have won their fourth title in eight years if not for Thompson. The Bay Area team wasn’t as strong and unstoppable as their previous championship teams, so they needed whatever Thompson could give them.

The other half of the Splash Brothers got off to a rocky start after refusing to face off in the offseason. He still had to overcome the mental hurdles of all that rehab in the offseason that he didn’t want to push himself.

Steve Kerr, however, is confident his star keeper will return to his old form.

Steve Kerr refuses to bench Klay Thompson

The Golden State Warriors have always been very supportive of Klay Thompson.
The Golden State Warriors have always been very supportive of Klay Thompson.

Klay Thompson is still averaging 15.1 points, but his shooting is down. His 36% return, including 32.6% at long range, is the worst of his career. These are numbers that are even significantly lower than his average last season.

Despite this, head coach Steve Kerr will not demote Klay Thompson to the bench. Kerr defended his star player and refused to demote Thompson to the bench. Kerr was adamant that the Golden State Warriors starting unit is the best in the NBA and Thompson is an integral part of that unit.

Kerr never thought about getting Klay off the bench https://t.co/RZ1ww4VaMd

The Warriors’ top five, Thompson, Steph Curry, Draymond Green, Kevon Looney and Andrew Wiggins, lead the league in offensive rating and net rating. ‘Killa Klay’ may be struggling, but he remains a crucial part of the NBA’s best starting unit.

Thompson has a strong support group that won’t let him down. He can count on Steph Curry’s mother, Sonya Curry, to be there for him when the chips are down.
