Captain Steve Patterson took the winning wicket as Yorkshire took a remarkable one-set victory over Northamptonshire in a county championship highlight at Headingley.

Former Northants fashion designer David Willey had previously taken 3-39 to leave visitors on 206-9 to chase 220, but the White Rose was held up by South African all-rounder Wayne Parnell. Yorkshire vs Northants Scoreboard

Parnell stood out in an exciting contest littered with stick, bowling and field weakness, having made 33 to take his desperately close to winning side with the support of Gareth Berg (16) and Simon Kerrigan (12).

But Parnell was the last man to leave, trapped by Patterson (2-53) to thwart Northants at 218 all.

This gave the home side a third straight Group 3 victory – it was only the second time in its history that it has triumphed in a race in a County Championship game.

Keaton Jennings hit an unbeaten 91 as Lancashire chased a delicate 253 target to beat Sussex by five wickets to record their third straight County Championship win. Sussex vs Lancs scoreboard

The former England opener held the pitch for almost four and a half hours, sharing a vital 71 partnership with Josh Bohannon (46) before guiding the Red Rose to the line at 255-5.

Coming back to 124-2, Lancashire first progressed slowly as spinner Jack Carson (3-45) applied pressure, leaving night watchman Saqib Mahmood (7) puzzled, then adding wicket Liam Livingstone (3) a little after.

But Bohannon quickly settled into his rhythm, breaking through a series of boundaries and dominating the fifth wicket stand of 71 that tipped the game decisively in favor of the visitors.

He missed his half-century, falling to Henry Crocombe just before lunch, but Steven Croft (16) helped Jennings see Lancashire at home, hanging Stuart Meaker for four to secure the victory that keeps them top of the group three.

Lewis Goldsworthy completed a memorable first-class start by sharing an unbroken stand of 86 with Steven Davies to lead Somerset to a four-wicket victory over Middlesex in Taunton. Somerset vs Middlesex scoreboard

The 20-year-old Cornishman (41) was joined by Davies (44 no) with their struggling team at 123-6, chasing 207, after Tim Murtagh (4-53) raised Middlesex hopes with two first counters.

These included the scalp of Somerset skipper Tom Abell, who was in leg before playing across the line for 49.

But the pair of seventh wickets showed patience and diligence as they reduced the attacking visitors, with Goldsworthy slamming Luke Hollman’s full throw at the edge of coverage for the winning points.

A full county tour will follow at the end of the game..
