Xbox Elite Series 2 – Core Controller Announced, Launching September 21

Microsoft has unveiled its new Xbox Elite Series 2 – Core controller. Although cheaper than the standard Elite Series 2, the new Core controller offers fewer features and lacks the usual interchangeable components. You will need to purchase them separately. The Xbox Elite Series 2 Controller – Core’s Indian price is up on Microsoft’s website – Rs. 10,990 – although neither Amazon nor Flipkart have it up for pre-order. The new Xbox Elite controller will launch on September 21 and comes with a white accent.

The Xbox Elite Series 2 – Core only comes with the controller, a USB Type-C cable and a controller adjustment tool. It lacks all the bonuses of owning a customizable Elite Series 2 controller, which includes a set of paddles, additional thumbsticks and D-pad, charging case and charging dock – all of which will need to be purchased separately. Build-wise, both controllers are identical, with tactile buttons and a rubber grip in the bottom half. With the lower price of Rs. 10,990, what you sacrifice here is the multitude of customizable options.

By comparison, the standard Xbox Elite Series 2 controller costs Rs. 17,990, after a recent price hike. The controller was initially listed for Rs. 15,990, which makes the Core series better value for money if you’re not too nerdy when it comes to customization. Microsoft has confirmed that all additional parts will be sold through a new “Complete Components Bundle”, which is listed at Rs. 5,290. So if you were to purchase the bundle later, the total investment would cost you Rs. 16 280 – far cheaper than what the standard Xbox Elite Series 2 controller currently costs.

Last month, even Sony dabbled in customizable gamepads, introducing the PS5 DualSense Edge controller. Similar to the Xbox Elite Series, it would let you swap controllers, add back buttons, custom button layout, and lets you create control profiles that can be switched depending on the game you’re playing.

Pre-orders for the Xbox Elite Series 2 Controllers – Core (White) begin today, with a launch date set for September 21. Currently, no Indian online retailer has the controller listed on their websites.
