X will start to charge some new users with minimum annual costs to interact with the platform, a measure which, according to its owner, Elon Musk, will make it possible to fight against false accounts and spam.

The platform formerly known as Twitter has started testing the new subscription model, called Not a robot, Tuesday for users creating new web accounts in New Zealand and the Philippines, according to a company blog post. New accounts will need to verify their phone number and pay $1 per year to post content, like posts, reply, or perform other key functions.
