Grayson Waller spent a lot of time targeting Kevin Owens’ hand during their match against Friday Night SmackDown this week. He still lost the match, of course, with a KO victory via roll up, but now WWE has taken that and turned it into this:
WWE doesn’t make a habit of announcing injuries, so it seems clear that this is simply continuing the story of the match. That said, the timing is terribly interesting. He has already been announced for the United States Championship number one contenders tournament, but he is not in the lineup for the first round of matches next week. It is in the same show that CM Punk will make his return to the blue brand.
Just a few days ago, Owens was doing an interview and seemed like he wasn’t thrilled about Punk’s return to WWE.
An injury angle gives him a good reason to miss the show, considering an injury like the reported one can take up to six weeks to heal. Not that it’s guaranteed he’ll miss the show or anything, but it’s obviously an option. And speculation will surely run rampant if he’s not here next week.
