World War II bomb set off by Danish army

The Danish army detonated a World War II bomb on Sunday in waters near Langeland, an island in the south of the country.

The Danish navy returned the bomb, initially caught in a fisherman’s net, to the water and attached a 10-kilo explosive charge to allow a controlled detonation.

Bombs from World War II are regularly found in Europe.

The ground of German cities, for example, remains littered with unexploded bombs which are regularly discovered on construction sites.

In October 2022, around 20,000 people were called to temporarily leave their homes in a district of Frankfurt after the discovery of a 500 kg bomb.

In December 2021, a World War II bomb exploded on a construction site near Munich train station, injuring four and interrupting rail traffic.
