From treasure hunter to paranormal investigator, there are plenty of unusual career paths and side gigs, if you’re willing to try them. But one woman has found what seems like the perfect source of passive income: a wealthy client who pays her to ignore him.
In a post shared on the Reddit forum r/TrueOffMyChest on Wednesday, April 20, u/ThrowawayRA7482 explained that she works as a financial dominatrix. Financial dominance, also known as “FinDom”, occurs when a “submissive” (or PayPig) sends “dominant” money or gifts. Like BDSM, it’s the acquiescence to power that turns it on, but financial dominatrixes can conduct anything online and don’t necessarily create sexually explicit content.
ThrowawayRA7482 wrote: “I work as a financial dominatrix and do online sessions and have had a sub for a few weeks now who just pays me to ignore her.
“It would be like the most mundane thing, like I’m doing my makeup or reading a book and I’m literally muted and his audio is off and he’s still paying me hundreds of dollars to ignore him like I do ‘I’m not even looking at the camera.
“I have other submissives who want me to degrade them or provide some form of stimulation, but that unsettles me! »
Due to job losses and restrictions brought by COVID-19, 2020 has seen an increase in people engaging in online sex work to help pay bills or earn extra money. The success of content subscription site OnlyFans was built on sex work, and its sales have increased 615% during the pandemic.
The woman’s post was upvoted 10,000 times and received over 700 comments from curious Redditors wanting to know more about her work. In the comments section, the poster explained that working as a money dominatrix is ”the easiest money I’ve ever made.”
In addition to earning between $15,000 and $20,000 a month on average, his “surrogates” also pay for gifts and vacations. She also added that her subs are interesting people, often with super specific flaws or fetishes.
She said: “I have long-term subs that I know quite well who understand their flaws and it’s interesting to see what triggers them.”
After finding out how much she earned, many users jokingly started questioning their own career choices.

Nixter295 agreed, commenting, “Oh, what wouldn’t I do to get this opportunity.”
Notreallylucy joked, “And here I ignored people for free, like an idiot.”
They also speculated about his client’s motives and what might have encouraged his specific inclination.
Speed33401 said: “Maybe the guy is an executive surrounded by yes men. He wants to remember what it’s like to be disrespected or ‘ignored’.
EthanGrey commented: “He takes a feeling he doesn’t like – being ignored – and explores it in a way where he has some degree of control.
“Paying you to ignore him is his way of gaining control. In this situation, he has more control than in a scenario where someone naturally ignores him.”
The megavenusaurs had an alternative theory: “It could also be a way for him to pretend she doesn’t know he’s watching her.”
Whatever his fetish, Redditors praised the mystery man for exploring his interests in a positive way.
Donthateskate729 added, “What’s great is that he seeks that experience through two willing parties, rather than going out in public to do it to someone unsuspecting.”
