The suspect has since been charged with murder following his death last month.
A woman has been arrested after allegedly poisoning her boyfriend to death for “financial reasons”, police said.
Steven Edward Riley Jr. – a 51-year-old man from Minot, North Dakota – died suddenly early last month, on September 5, at a hospital in the state capital of Bismarck, according to a news release released by the Minot Police Department. Monday.
Following an autopsy, authorities determined Riley’s cause of death was poisoning and his surviving girlfriend, Ina Thea Kenoyer, 47, was arrested Monday and charged with murdering her boyfriend by poisoning, police said.
“Police believe Riley’s girlfriend, 47-year-old Ina Thea Kenoyer, Minot, had financial motivations to murder Riley,” Minot police said. “Kenoyer is charged with Class AA Felony Murder and is being held in the Ward County Jail.”
While authorities have said there were “financial motives” for Kenoyer to poison her boyfriend, police have not released any further information about the case or what might have led them to that conclusion.
