Woman killed in Dekalb County crash, three minors taken to hospital

DEKALB COUNTY, Alabama – A woman from Cottondale, Alabama was killed in a crash Wednesday in Dekalb County.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Johnnitta Lavelle Mason, 38, died when the vehicle she was a passenger in pulled off the road and hit a tree. This happened around 8 a.m. on I-59 near the 202 mile marker.

The vehicle was driven by Victor Antwan Lawson, 36, also from Cottondale. State soldiers say he was not injured.

Three minors were also in the vehicle. All three were injured and taken to hospital for treatment. The extent of their injuries was not immediately clear.

Authorities said Mason was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. The Alabama law enforcement agency is investigating the accident.
