A witness to a multi-vehicle car crash in Maryland on Sunday is hailed as a hero after rescuing a toddler whose car seat was thrown in a bay near Ocean City.
The five-car crash happened on a bridge over Assawoman Bay shortly before 3 p.m., city firefighters said in a statement.
The 2-year-old girl was thrown from a pickup that “wobbled” over a railing, the department said.
“A heroic witness jumped off the bridge into the bay and saved the child,” city officials said in a statement.
The girl was airlifted to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, where she was in stable condition, officials said.
It is not known what caused the crash, which left seven others injured.
The witness asked to remain anonymous, officials said.
