Winter barley in Germany thrives, wheat suffers from heat – farm lobby

HAMBURG, July 20 (Reuters)The 2022 winter barley harvest in Germany will increase to around 9 million tonnes from around 8.8 million tonnes last year, the German farmers’ association DBV said on Wednesday.

Winter barley, typically used for animal feed, was generally fully grown before the current heat wave hit, he said in a crop report.

But there are concerns that wheat in Germany is suffering from heat stress, he said.
