Willian terminated his contract with Arsenal and therefore walked away from £ 20million, according to talkSPORT.
The former Chelsea man joined the Gunners last summer but failed to impress in north London.
Willian left the Blues because he couldn’t secure a three-year contract with the club, which Arsenal obliged and gave him in order to secure the transfer.
At 33, many expected the Brazilian to stay put and get his big paycheck, which talkSPORT says was worth around £ 10million a year, for two more years.
However, he instead agreed to terminate his contract.
Willian is now set to return home to Brazil and join his childhood club Corinthians.
A statement from the Arsenal club said: “We have reached a mutual agreement with Willian to terminate his contract as of today.
“The Brazil international joined us from Chelsea last August and has made 38 appearances in the 2020/21 campaign.
“He still had two years to fulfill his contract but following recent positive and constructive discussions with him and his team, he will be leaving for a new opportunity with Corinthians in Brazil, where he started his career.
“Everyone at Arsenal wishes Willian and his family the best of luck for the future.
“The termination of the contract is subject to the completion of regulatory processes.”
