William Shatner to travel to space in Blue Origin: NPR rocket

The man who first played Captain Kirk traveling through space in the Star Trek the franchise is preparing to visit the edge of space for the first time on Wednesday.

Actor and director William Shatner is one of four people set to take off from space company Blue Origin’s latest rocket launch, which is scheduled to take off at 9:00 a.m. CT.

William Shatner to travel to space in Blue Origin: NPR rocket

“I’m going to space. I don’t know how many people can say that”, Shatner noted in a promotional video tweeted by Blue Origin.

“And it seems there is a lot of curiosity about this fictional character, Captain Kirk, going into space. So let’s go ahead and enjoy the ride,” he added.

At 90, Shatner will become the oldest person to fly in space, according to Blue Origin.

The space company, which is owned by Amazon billionaire founder Jeff Bezos, launched its first manned space flight in July, with Bezos and three others on board.
