Will Smith Refused to Quit Oscars When Asked, Disciplinary Hearing Says

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has “launched disciplinary proceedings” against actor Will Smith for his Oscar win on Sunday.

The Academy claims Smith was asked to leave the event after he assaulted presenter Chris Rock, but he “refused” to leave.

“The Board of Governors today initiated disciplinary proceedings against Mr. Smith for breaching the Academy’s standards of conduct, including inappropriate physical contact, abusive or threatening behavior and undermining the integrity of the Academy,” the organization behind the Oscars said in a statement.

Smith was criticized for the violent outburst against Rock, who made an insensitive joke about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.

Rock made a joke about Pinkett Smith’s short haircut, which is due to alopecia.

“Jada, I love you. GI Jane 2, can’t wait to see you,” Rock said referencing the movie. G.I. Jane looking at Demi Moore, who shaves her head to join the training of US Navy SEALs.

Smith got up from his seat, approached Rock on stage and slapped him in the face.

Smith then shouted, “Keep my wife’s name out of your fucking mouth.”

This is a developing story.
