Will Matthew Stafford be a one-year wonder for the Rams?

The Los Angeles Rams took a huge step back in 2021 to get quarterback Matthew Stafford.

That move would immediately pay off for the Rams, as they won the Super Bowl and won it that season.

However, with Stafford aging, some might worry that he will be a one-year wonder for the Rams.

There’s an argument to be made on both sides of that argument, as Stafford’s Super Bowl play wasn’t perfect.

But will this performance mean he’s down to one and done with the Rams?

Stafford has reliable passing numbers over his career

When you break down his passing numbers, you see a player who has been reliable throughout his career.

Since 2011, Stafford has only had one full season where his passing yards were under 4,000 and none with under 20 touchdowns.

While his numbers in 2019 were below both marks, he suffered an injury during that season, playing just eight games.

So other than that, he’s been average and reliable with the ball.

However, the Rams need something more than their average quarterback.

Last season, he tied his career-high 41 touchdowns and posted his third-highest season in career passing yards.

It shows he can be above average with the receiving corps in Los Angeles.

But without Odell Beckham Jr. this season, will he be able to do it again with Cooper Kupp and Allen Robinson in 2022?

He could, as Kupp was Stafford’s favorite target last season.

However, there is something that might show another side of the quarterback that Rams fans might not accept.

Stafford threw too many interceptions in 2021

Interceptions are a game changer in the NFL.

When you’re rolling pick sixes, there’s a lot to worry about.

With him setting a record four picks of six and over 40 touchdowns last season, those four picks gave his opponents 24 instant points.

This is a game changer when the game is tight and you need to stop your opponent from scoring.

The Rams defense can’t help the team when Stafford makes mistakes like that.

However, his 17 interceptions last season allowed him to tie the record for the 2021 season.

Those mistakes, if he keeps making them, will make him a one-shot wonder with the Rams.

Can he make better decisions when passing the ball in 2022?

Sometimes interceptions come from bad decisions made by the quarterback.

Other times, it’s pure bad luck to give a gift to the opposing team.

However, with Stafford, it’s less luck from the opposing defense and more bad decisions on his behalf.

But can he make better choices this season with the Rams when he exits in 2021 with them?

It is actually very doubtful that he can do that.

His career is full of double-digit interceptions.

Stafford hasn’t played a full season with less than ten interceptions for the year.

Every season he plays in every game, he throws ten or more picks.

It’s a game like this that will cost him and the Rams games in the 2022 season.

It will also lead to him being a one-year wonder for the Rams.
