Wilko closes 38 stores today as it prepares to close all 400: full list revealed

  • Everything you need to know about store closures in the coming weeks

Wilko’s more than 400 stores are expected to close by October, which could result in around 12,500 staff losing their jobs.

Having failed to secure a takeover that would save the business, the high street retailer fell into administration on 10 August.

Administrators PwC had agreed a £13 deal to sell 51 Wilko stores to B&M while Poundland sold around 71 stores.

However, no buyer could be found for the entire company and the company has since announced that all stores will close their doors in the coming weeks.

But which stores have already closed? And which Wilko stores are preparing to lower their shutters?

Read on to find out which Wilko stores are closing and when, including a full list of store closures.

Here’s everything you need to know about Wilko store closures in the coming weeks, including a full list of stores expected to be closed.

Which Wilko stores are closing?

Over the past two weeks, Wilko has closed the shutters on 90 sites across the UK. The mass retailer is closing a total of 86 stores this week, resulting in more than 1,000 layoffs.

The store’s two large warehouses in Workshop, Nottinghamshire and Newport, Wales, will close on Friday September 15, 2023, with the last support center employees leaving in October 2023.

The administrators are still in talks over deals to sell store properties, but are closing sites after failing to find a suitor who would accept them as Wilko stores and retain their staff.

Although takeover bids from B&M and Poundland were successful, the GMB union said the bids were only for property and any deal would not include workers.

After the bailout deal collapsed, the union said any hope of saving thousands of jobs had collapsed.

PwC had already agreed a deal worth around £13m to sell up to 51 Wilko stores to rival B&M.

In a statement, Zelf Hussain, joint administrator at PwC, said: “Despite considerable efforts, it has become clear that no significant part of Wilko’s operations can be saved. »

Wilko stores across the UK are lowering their shutters for the final time and 86 stores are expected to close this week.
