Teofimo Lopez has criticized Josh Taylor and insists he has a “different mindset” than the undisputed welterweight world champion.
Taylor was set to defend his four world titles in a heartwarming homecoming against Jack Catterall on December 18.
It would have marked the return of a lifetime after the Scotsman’s spectacular performance against Jose Ramirez in May when he dropped the American twice in Las Vegas en route to a unanimous decision.
Instead, fans will have to wait until February for “The Tartan Tornado” to return to the ring, something Lopez can empathize with.
The 24-year-old hasn’t fought since October 2020, when he beat Vasyl Lomachenko to become the lightweight world champion.
The pair faced each other several times over the next 12 months, with Taylor insisting that Lopez is not a certified undisputed world champion because Lomachenko had the WBC “franchise” belt.
When the youngster appeared on stage alongside Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez to scroll through his world titles, Taylor sparked a torrent of abuse on social media.
He wrote: “That little rat Teofimo Lopez parading on Canelo with his WBC Mickey Mouse.
“What a brass collar ******. Inconvenient! The guy is so desperate it’s unreal. There are only two undisputed champions with all the belts. DONE!”
Now, less than a week before his ring returned to take on George Kambosos Jr in New York City, “The Takeover” has hit back.
“Man, what does he know, what does he know?” He doesn’t know anything, ”Lopez told talkSPORT. “I tell you like this man, people are just crazy. Crazy boy ! If I have to say it man, I’ll say it like this.
“They went unchallenged after Teo went unchallenged. They didn’t do it before that.
“No one fought for the Undisputed in 2020, no one has done all of that, has they? But my fight was.
“He says I have unfinished business. I mean, these guys pretty much show their hands every time – that’s what it is.
