WI vs. IND 2022 | Support from Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid gave me a lot of confidence, says Avesh Khan

Avesh Khan credited captain Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid for his brilliant time in the fourth T20I, saying their support gave him the confidence to perform. Avesh Khan scalped a few wickets for 17 runs from his four overs in Game 4 of the series for a series win.

India secured a series win against West Indies by taking a 3-1 lead on Saturday. The former posted a tough 191/5 total for the hosts. The Indian bowling unit did well to wrap up the opposition for 132. After having two disappointing outings, Avesh Khan threw a brilliant opening spell for the team, delivering a breakthrough in the power play. Reflecting on his fate, Avesh said the support from the captain and coach inspired him to play well.

“They gave me a lot of confidence, despite the fact that I haven’t performed well in my last two games. However, the support from Rohit bhai and Rahul Sir gave me confidence on and off the pitch… and told me hard times happen,” Avesh told reporters after the game.

Avesh had leaked 54 runs from six overs in his first ODI match last month. His performance hasn’t been very impressive on the international stage, but the team has always supported him so far. Avesh expressed his delight at the performance of the fourth T20I.

“They also backed me up saying the two-game average performance doesn’t make anyone a bad bowler, especially in the T20s, given the format. I was supported in the same way in this game too and I’m glad I played well. They also provided me with the necessary support during the tour in South Africa,” he explained.

“When a player is constantly encouraged by the captain and the coach to perform well, it automatically motivates him to give his best. Rohit bhai is a fantastic leader. Not just me, he always supports and supports everyone on the team.
