Sanjay Manjrekar felt that Ravichandran Ashwin excelled in saving in the T20 format and therefore his selection for the current series against West Indies was excellent. Manjrekar also added that Ashwin compliments the team’s leading wicket-spinner with his bowling.
India have taken a 2-1 lead over West Indies in the current five-game T20I series. The batting bowling unit has performed well in the series so far. Ravichandran Ashwin returned to Team India for the series and managed to knock out crucial wickets apart from being economical. Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar praised Ashwin saying he’s mastered the art of being economical in the T20Is.
“You know the spinner’s job in T20 cricket, in the middle stage, is to get wickets like Shamsi and Keshav Maharaj for South Africa. That’s where Ashwin was a bit lacking as a spinner T20. He focused a lot on the economy, but when you have someone like Chahal, or if there’s another wrist trick that takes the wicket, then Ashwin becomes a big compliment because Ashwin has mastered the art of being economical in T20 cricket In the first T20 a few wickets were a good sign but that’s what you’ll get with Ashwin, that compliment to the team’s other main wicket spinner Manjrekar said on SPORTS18’s daily sports news program “SPORTS OVER THE TOP”.
Ashwin has returned to the T20 squad after a long stretch and his inclusion in the T20 World Cup squad is still unclear. However, the spinner has the ability to make contributions with the bat in the lower order.
“I think Ashwin’s selection on this tour was excellent. Over the past two years in the Indian T20 league, Ashwin has started to make an impact. I love Ashwin when he’s with someone like Chahal. So it’s not Ashwin’s job to change the game,” he explained.
