Why Ravichandran Ashwin was totally sidelined after last T20 World Cup, asks Aakash Chopra

Aakash Chopra has questioned the BCCI selectors regarding their decision to recall Ravichandran Ashwin in the T20I mix for the upcoming Indian tour of the West Indies. Ashwin was selected in India’s latest T20 World Cup squad but hasn’t played an international match in the longest format since last November.

The Indian Cricket Control Board ( BCCI) India’s squad announcement for the upcoming West Indies T20Is has recently made headlines due to the lack of mention of Virat Kohli. Meanwhile, the world’s richest cricket board also made a few surprise moves: one recalled Ravichandran Ashwin in the shortest format in the game.

Surprisingly, Ashwin hasn’t been considered in India’s T20 mix since last November. He last played a T20I match against New Zealand at Ranchi on November 19 last year and was also selected in the 2021 T20 World Cup squad. nothing really wrong, it was removed from the list. Now, while speaking on his Youtube channel, Aakash Chopra has asked BCCI coaches to explain the decision.

“Ravichandran Ashwin is back, it’s interesting. What’s the long-term prospect? Why hasn’t he been there in the team for the last 8-10 months? Why has he been totally put away after the World Cup and why has he come back now?” Chopra said on her Youtube channel.

“Actually he (Ashwin) played five games (including three at the 2021 World Cup), he did well but after that he didn’t have too many chances. Then you should have played him as well against Sri Lanka and South Africa. You didn’t play him in the T20Is in England either, even if he was there in England you could have played him.”

However, Chopra believes it would be a “great opportunity” for Ashwin to thrive in the West Indies, as the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia isn’t too far away.

“This is a great opportunity for R Ashwin to be fair. Jaddu [Jadeja] will play, Axar has also been kept in the squad with him, and Ravi Bishnoi is also there in that squad. There will be turns, so the spin will be used more. You’ll play him for sure,” Chopra added.
