Australia’s cricket tour of India kicks off today, with the T20 opening match at 7.00pm in Mohali. The three-game series is one of the last pit stops for both teams before contesting the International T20 World Cup later in the year in Australia. With high stakes at stake, all eyes will be on Pat Cummins.

Cummins is Australia’s vice-captain for Limited cricket and captain for Test cricket. Cummins was instrumental in Australian bowling at the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, where he bowled with an average save of 7.37.

Cummins made his international debut in 2011, against Tasmania. It was his first Test match and his fourth professional international, where Cummins established himself as an impressive pacer to watch.

Taking six wickets in one inning, the second-youngest cricket tester to do so, Cummins received the Man of the Match award.

His consistent performances continued despite injury struggles and Cummins was part of the winning Australian squad for the 2015 World Cup campaign.

Returning to Test cricket in 2017, Cummins again stood out. He even led the wicket tally with 23 wickets in the 2017-18 Ashes series. He once again solidified himself as one of Australia’s most consistent bowlers by winning 22 wickets in four matches during Australia’s tour of South Africa in 2017–18. In 2021, Cummins was awarded the title of test captain.

In T20 format, Cummins played for Kolkata Knight Riders in the last IPL season. After debuting in the T20 event in 2014, Cummins missed playing IPL in IPL 2016, IPL 2018 and IPL 2019.

His last performance in 2022 with the Knight Riders even positioned him as a batsman with his legendary 50-run 14-ball shot against the Mumbai Indians, tying him with KL Rahul for the tournament’s fastest half-century.
