Why does France 3 give up broadcasting a program on the Johannine celebrations of Orleans? – RT in French

Scheduled for May 8, the broadcast on France 3 of a program dedicated to the Johannine celebrations of Orleans will not take place. At issue: a delicate schedule ahead of the regional elections and the participation in the project of a journalist from Valeurs contemporaine.

While the Johannine festivals are celebrated every year in Orleans – in tribute to the deliverance by Joan of Arc and her army of the city besieged by the English on May 8, 1429 – the broadcast of a 52-minute television program was planned this year on the regional antenna of France 3, which has finally reversed.

For a program broadcast on a public channel, it is still very complicated

Quoted on April 28 by the regional daily The Republic of the Center, the regional director of France 3 Center-Val de Loire spoke about the abandonment of the distribution of a magazine, funded entirely by the city to the tune of 25,000 euros.

When I learned that the voiceover for this program would be done by a journalist from Current values, my arms fell to me

“When I learned that the voiceover for this program would be done by a journalist from Current values, my arms fell to me. For a program broadcast on a public channel, it is all the same very complicated ”, notably argued Jean-Jacques Basier, also evoking a delicate calendar in the run-up to departmental and regional elections.

Two days before the opening of the departmental and regional campaign, it seemed awkward to me

The director of the channel recalled the presence in the documentary of the mayor of Orléans, Serge Grouard, which could pose a problem in terms of airtime granted to political figures ahead of the electoral deadline. “I did not know that there were political speeches at these parties. Two days before the opening of the departmental and regional campaign, it seemed awkward to me, ”he argued.

Anyway, Jean-Jacques Basier said there had never been a contract to lock the broadcast of the show on his channel. “We made a letter of intent, it’s true, but it wasn’t a contract. It was expected that if this magazine did not suit us, we would not distribute it, ”he said, again quoted by the regional daily.

As part of the festivities reduced in times of health crisis, the program was announced by the city of Orleans to allow the highlights of the ceremonies of the year to be retraced on television.
