With the 2022 NFL preseason in full swing and the regular season only 27 days away, we’ve already started looking for which rookie will win a special award: Defensive Rookie of the Year.

This year’s signings are some of the most talented prospects in football and they’re ready to show it on the pitch and make their mark in the league.

The first round of the 2022 NFL Draft was loaded with defensive talent and began with a streak of five consecutive defensive players selected. It was the first time since 1991 that the top five picks were all on the defensive side of the ball.

DROY is an award often won by defensemen who tackle running backs and fire the league’s best signallers, and is often awarded to a first-round pick. Only two of the last 20 DROYs have been selected outside of the first round.

In recent seasons, there have been a few game changers who have been on the defensive side of the ball. Micah Parsons of the Dallas Cowboys won the DROY award last season, and before him it was Washington’s Chase Young and Nick Bosa of the San Francisco 49ers.

With this year’s NFL season fast approaching, the odds are already known as to who will win the DROY title, so here’s a look at the top contenders:
