Where to Buy the Netflix Movie Toy

The CGI pig in Slumberland— the new Jason Momoa who started streaming on Netflix on Friday — is absolutely adorable. It’s so adorable that it made me, a 30 year old woman, immediately want to buy the Slumberland plush pig. And yes, I know that previous sentence just had 12 Netflix marketing executives screaming and cheering in a conference room in Los Angeles. What can I say ? They do their job well!

All kid-friendly fantasy media, especially kid-friendly fantasy media that comes out during the holiday season, when parents are looking for Christmas gifts, needs an adorable animal companion. The Mandalorian had Baby Yoda, which was undoubtedly one of the hottest Christmas presents of 2020. What now Slumberland a Pig, who may not be as seismic as little Grogu, but is adorable and marketable nonetheless. Say what you want on this loose adaptation of the comic book classic Little Nemo in Slumberland, but it shows absolutely on the forehead of the animals. Said sidekick is a stuffed pig, known simply as “Pig”, who comes to life when our protagonist Nemo (Marlow Barkley) falls asleep and enters the magical dream world of Slumberland.

The pig, like many of our childhood comforters and stuffed animals, is a source of comfort for young Nemo, who is at the crucial age between childhood and adolescence. On the last night she sees her father (played by Kyle Chandler) alive, Nemo insists she’s too old to sleep with a stuffed animal, but quickly runs to grab her beloved toy as soon as her father leaves. the room. After losing his father, a lighthouse operator, in a tragic accident at sea, Nemo begins to visit a magical kingdom in his dreams. There she meets Flip (Jason Momoa), a satyr-like thief who was the star of her father’s fantasy bedtime stories. Flip needs Nemo’s help to find a map of Slumberland, and Nemo needs Flip to see his father again, so the two team up. And Pig, who comes alive in this fantasy world of dreams, is also coming.

While this whole heavily CGI flick isn’t great, the animated pig never fails to delight. His ears pop up and droop, his head tilts in curiosity, his little muzzle wrinkles, and he waddles adorably as he walks. He doesn’t speak – thank goodness – but growls or snorts in surprise, joy, alarm, and even outrage (when Flip inadvertently offends him). Although he can’t exactly converse with Nemo, he nevertheless watches over her. He shoots his pant leg when he senses danger and distracts his enemies at key times. I’ll admit I was more upset about Pig being blown away by the storm in the film’s climactic story than I was for Nemo. (The girl was still going to live! Jury was still on the stuffed animal!) Don’t worry, he does.

You can enter your email on the Netflix store website to be notified when the plush is back in stock. The pig is small-only 14 inches long-with a Slumberland heart sewn on the side.
