Antonio Conte acknowledged that his team was improving while pointing out that once this group of players needed to get addicted to winning drugs to develop the mindset of wanting to win trophies. The Italian coach took charge of the London club in November and improved his form.
Antonio Conte has been named head coach of Tottenham Hotspur on November 2, 2021 following the dismissal of Nuno Espírito Santo. The Italian manager has signed an 18-month contract with the option of a further year as he looks to improve their form and propel them into a team capable of winning trophies.
The London club have overcome their dismal start to the campaign and are now in contention to secure Champions League qualification at the end of the season. The London club’s aspirations to finish in the top four took a hit last month when they suffered defeat to Brighton and only drew with Brentford. Tottenham are now fifth in the table and two points behind Arsenal with the two teams set to face off in a high-stakes encounter on Thursday.
Conte gave some insight into their recent slip-ups, but believes his side are gradually improving and taking the next step of being a team that is getting addicted to the thrill of winning and chasing after trophies.
“It can happen in one or two games in a row, and you can struggle. This can happen for many reasons. Maybe sometimes the pressure started to get stronger but I think this team and this group of players are improving in all aspects, including handling the pressure. In my opinion, you acquire the winning mentality and you become a winner the moment you start winning,” Conte told a news conference.
“Because when you start winning, you understand that the work you have done has brought this result. When you start winning, winning becomes a drug for you and you want to repeat it. You want to have this fantastic moment, to celebrate, to feel in this moment that you are the best,” he added.
