What does “SS” mean in fashion?
NYFW can be tricky to navigate, especially if you don’t know all the lingo. In September, designers will have “SS” labels at the end of their collection.
The “SS” represents a Spring/Summer collection, with this season’s runways bearing the Spring/Summer 2023 designation as designers look ahead to the season ahead. Designers are setting the tone for the trends we’ll welcome into our closets after our winter jackets retire.

What is fashion week for?
Historically, New York Fashion Week has served as a vehicle for showcasing designer creations with presentations and runway shows for fashion journalists and store buyers. From 1993 to 2009, the shows ran under white tents in Bryant Park in midtown Manhattan, moving further downtown in 2010 to Lincoln Center before finding its current downtown home at Spring Studios. in 2015.
Each season’s events allow editors, buyers, celebrities and consumers to get an overview of the designers’ collections.
But in the digital age where everyone plays a role in the culture of influencers, what is fashion week for?
NYFW has always been successful amid the shift to online events during the pandemic. Although the traditional approach to parades and exhibitions draws people into an intimate experience, the pandemic and the continued success of influencers has helped NYFW adapt to include more digital and phygital events, as well as to integrate more of fashion influencers who might have been overlooked before. by the guardians of fashion.
