The image of the WNBA playoffs is starting to get sharp.

With just a few days to play in the regular season, seven teams have clinched playoff spots (Connecticut Sun, Las Vegas Aces, Minnesota Lynx, Seattle Storm, Phoenix Mercury, Chicago Sky and Dallas Wings), and three teams remain in contention. for last place (Washington Mystics, Los Angeles Sparks and New York Liberty). The seeds are still very changeable, so even teams that know they are heading to the playoffs have a reason to keep competing.

When does the WNBA playoffs start in 2021?

  • Last day of the regular season: Sunday September 19
  • WNBA playoffs: Thursday 23 September

The 2021 WNBA playoffs begin on Thursday, September 23. The last possible date for a WNBA Finals game is Tuesday, October 19.

How will the WNBA playoffs work?

  • Eight teams in total will advance to the WNBA playoffs with a regular season record determining the seeds of those teams. The first two seeds will get a pass to the semi-finals, and the third and fourth seeds will get a pass to the second round.
  • The first and second rounds are knockout, and the WNBA semi-finals and finals are best-of-five series. The higher seeds will host games 1, 2 and 5, while the lower seeds will host games 3 and 4 of those series.
  • The teams will be reclassified after each elimination round.
