Nathan Collins expects tough grand final against Leyland

Leeds Rhinos and Leyland Warriors meet this Sunday to determine the winner of the 2021 Betfred Wheelchair Super League.

Sunday’s final – the first Wheelchair Rugby League Grand Final in Lancashire / Yorkshire and the first to be broadcast live on Sky Sports – sees defending champions Leeds Rhinos aim for a league / cup double after the win of the Betfred Challenge Cup last month against the Halifax Panthers.

The Rhinos suffered the disappointment of the Grand Final at the hands of the Panthers at Medway Park Sports Center in Gillingham in 2019, and Leyland Warriors will be hoping lightning strikes twice for the Rhinos when the teams line up in the same spot at 3:15 p.m. on Sunday.

Leeds Rhinos celebrate with Challenge Cup trophy

Leeds, who remain unbeaten in 2021, have a number of players who have represented England against Wales earlier this season – Josh Butler, Nathan Collins, Tom Halliwell and James Simpson in their squad. Adam Rigby of the Warriors made his England debut in the same game but has been on the losing side more than once against his English teammates this season.

“We have played at Leeds a few times this season and have improved every time,” said Adam Rigby of Leyland Warriors.

“Last time around we won until the last 10 minutes. The preparation has been difficult over the past two weeks for all kinds of reasons, but we’re going to travel with a stronger team and give them all we have.

“Leeds are a good team, very structured, and have already rightly won the Challenge Cup and League Leaders award. We ourselves are well organized – Phil Roberts may not be as fast as he was , but he gives us great direction in the middle. Then we have people like Martin Norris and Declan Roberts who are more than capable of pulling something out of the hat. “

Nathan Collins of Leeds Rhinos added: “We have beaten Leyland a few times this season but they are a very good team and we will not take them for granted. I saw them beat a very good Argonauts team in the half. final, final, and they have a strong mix of international past and present.

“We are however confident in our own abilities. We will be training hard this week, polishing some things and making sure we are ready for Sunday.”
