Javy Baez is one of the most entertaining players in all of MLB, and he proved it with this at-bat. Baez attempted to score a hit on a pitch that had bounced into the dirt. This, of course, did not work well for him. The game was ineffective against the Cleveland Guardians.
Jomboy Media posted a clip of the Detroit Tigers slugger’s failed attempt on Twitter.
The Detroit Tigers and their fans were not happy with their recently underperforming All-Star. Javy Baez currently has a WAR of 0.9 and a batting average of 0.227. Both are significantly below his career averages. This play was the most recent example of his poor performance.
While this attempt may seem unique, it’s on par with Baez’s journey. While the hit was bleak at best, it was hugely entertaining.
It might not have been the best decision in the big league, but it would have been brilliant in another sport.
Even when he was with the Chicago Cubs at the height of his career, Baez was trying to make weird plays similar to this one.
When moments like this work, Baez is an All-Star. When they don’t, it’s naturally roasted.
It’s a fun baseball moment to watch and remember. However, if you’re a Tigers fan, it will probably be remembered for the wrong reasons.
Javy Baez led MLB in strikeouts in 2021 with 184. He hopes to avoid repeating that feat this season.
This style of play is infuriating when it doesn’t work, but hugely entertaining when it does. If the ball had somehow landed in the outfield and been a hit, the reaction would have been entirely different. Some (probably biased) fans hope that Baez will never give up making games like this.
Javy Baez took a few snaps of an irritated fan base, but it was done largely in a fun way.
Javy Baez hasn’t been the same player since leaving the Chicago Cubs
In 2018, Baez was an All-Star and came in second place for MVP. He was also a key player for the Cubs in their World Series push. Since then, Baez has failed to live up to the high expectations fans have for him.
Thanks to his engaging personality and bold style of play, he’ll likely always be a fan favorite. While he can’t regain an All-Star caliber level of play, he can still be a solid rotational player. The piece was the latest excuse for fans who had high expectations for Baez to vent their frustrations.
