Next week is a hodgepodge of news releases and economic events. Members of central banks around the world will speak. In the United States, Existing Home Sales, Philly Fed Manufacturing Index, PMI flash data will be released:

Monday April 18. Easter Monday holiday will shut down most of Europe including Switzerland, UK, France, Germany, Italy and Canada

  • China’s GDP, 10 p.m. ET. Estimate 4.2% vs. 4.0% T/A
  • Retail sales in China year-over-year. 10 p.m. ET. Estimate -3% vs. +6.7%
  • RBNZ Governor Orr speaks at 4 p.m. ET / 0500 GMT. RBNZ raises rates by 50 basis points at last week’s meeting
  • Feds Bullard (hawk and voting member) also speaks at 4 p.m. ET

Tuesday, April 19:

  • Minutes of Australia’s monetary policy meeting. 9:30 p.m. ET
  • US housing starts, 8:30 a.m. ET. Estimate 1.74 million vs 1.77 million last month
  • SNB President Jordan speaks at 12:30 p.m. ET

Wednesday April 20

  • IPC Canada. 8:30 a.m. ET. Estimate 0.9%.
